He has co-authored numerous studies that document how racial/ethnic minority and low- socioeconomic-status populations in the US experience disparate exposures, adverse experiences, and health impacts from climate and weather hazards such as air pollution, flooding, and extreme heat. Recent projects have focused on the socially disparate impacts of large climate-related disasters, including Hurricane Harvey and Winter Storm Uri. Collins is a member of the USEPA Board of Scientific Counselors. Collins received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University as an National Science Foundation (NSF) Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship fellow in urban ecology, and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Chico State University.
