About me
Dr. Joseph Moore received his Ph.D. degree in Geology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1975 and after a short stint as a uranium exploration geologist, joined the University of Utah. He is currently a Research Professor at the University and serves as the Managing Principal Investigator of the Utah Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE).
Since the 1970s, Dr. Moore’s research has focused on the geology and geochemistry of geothermal systems. His work has been supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, geothermal exploration and development companies, the NSF, U.N., and US AID. In recent years, Dr. Moore’s attention has been directed toward the development of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). Prior to managing the FORGE project, he served as the Principal Investigator of the successful Raft River Idaho EGS Demonstration Project, which documented the importance of cold-water injection as a tool for enhancing reservoir permeability.
Dr. Moore has worked on geothermal exploration and development projects throughout the world and has published more than 150 reports and peer-reviewed papers on his research. He is recognized internationally for his work in advancing geothermal energy development.
